Latino Bloggers – August Meetup at the Far Bar

Image from Angelenic.com

** This was a post from a while back. Latino bloggers used to get together to hang out in the downtown Los Angeles area. Let me know if you are interested in having the bloggeros get together again at bloggeros(at)EastsideScene.com.

In the past, the Latino/a Bloggers have met mostly at cafes and restaurants. This time we will shake it up a little and meet at the Far Bar in Little Tokyo. The Far Bar is a great place to kick back outdoors in a semi-enclosed area (bring a sweater) with good prices on drinks and a great atmosphere.

The Far Bar at Chop Suey Cafe is located at 347 E. First Street in Little Tokyo.

As the Far Bar closes at midnight, we will have plenty of time to discuss what ever come up.

Question of the night: Do any of you use Twitter? Eastside Scene recently signed up for an account.

If you are a blogger that cares about Latino/a American Experience then please come join the fun. No agenda. No pressure. No RSVP necessary.

See you there!

Our next Latino/a Blogger get-together will be at Antigua Cafe in El Sereno. The changes should make it easier for people to come hang out – a later time (at 7 insted of 6) and longer hours (the place closes at 11).

If you are a blogger with a Latina/o-slant or a potential Latina/o blogger come hang out. No agenda. No pressure. No RSVP necessary. We are just people who like to share thoughts and information using the web.

Antigua Cafe is located at 4836 Huntington Dr S in El Sereno.

Latino Blogging in Los Angeles – Follow up post

The second meeting of local Latina/o bloggers took place this week in the eastside. It would be just as easy to point out the differences as the similarities amongst us. Mexican and Salvadorian and Guatemalan roots, 1st and 2nd and 3rd generation, students and artists and professionals. It just shows that the blanket term “Latina/o” covers alot of territory. To get a sense of the diversity of Latina/o voices, here are some of the blogs that were represented that night:

www.WendyCarrillo.com
www.Pachucoville.blogspot.com
www.LoteriaChicana.net
www.SicklySeason.com
www.ViewFromaLoft.typepad.com
www.Lucesitas.wordpress.com

As before, the conversation went all over the place. It touched upon blogsbloggers, RSS, Obama, El Chavo, Cityhood for East Los Angeles, art, and stuff white people like.

Another meeting is scheduled for March 2008. If you are a blogger with a Latina/o-slant or potential Latina/o blogger come join the fun. Please email us at  bloggeros(at)EastsideScene.com for the details of the next get-together in East Los Angeles.

It is great to know there are so many great Latino writers out there sharing information, stories, and opinions in the form of web logs or “blogs.” On Tuesday night, writers from Lotería ChicanaPachucoville and EastsideScene met outside the virtual world to discuss life, writing, curanderas, food, the perils of social networking and blogging in L.A.

We all  decided to plan another get-together and invite more Latino bloggers/potential bloggers into the fray. If you are a blogger or potential blogger, please email us at bloggeros(at)EastsideScene.com for the details about the get together planned for February 2008 in East Los Angeles.

For your reading pleasure, here is a short list of some cool Latino blogs in no particular order:
Lotería Chicana
Pachucoville

The Great Taco Hunt
Chanfles!
Sickly Season / notes from mictlan
